Six soldiers struck by car

Saturday, August 12, 2017

Six soldiers of the 35th infantry regiment forming part of France’s Opération Sentinelle were driven into by a car at 8 o’clock in the morning on Wednesday as they moved to their vehicles to relieve the previous shift in Levallois-Perret, a densely populated suburb of Paris.

Two soldiers are seriously injured, the others sustained minor injuries, though none are believed to be life-threatening. No motivation is known yet, but terrorism is suspected. In the opinion of Patrick Balkany, mayor of the city, “It is without any doubt deliberate.” ((fr)) French language: C’est sans aucun doute délibéré

The suspect was arrested after noon by the Brigade de Recherche et d’Intervention (BRI) [Research and Intervention Brigade, an anti-gang force in the French National Police], during which he was injured by five bullets. The suspect is an Algerian man aged 36 living in Val d’Oise, and unknown to police.
